TThe thing is twenty feet wide and fifty feet long. A poignant little reminder about our lost civil liberties. The concept is a look back at 1984, George Orwell's premonition were war is endless and Big Brother watches all.




At the busy intersection of Houston between Broadway and Lafayette in New York City. Thousands of people, big billboards and bad weather (at least on this night.) The ad is for the GAP, the retailer repeatedly embarrassed by its use of sweatshops. They also seem to have a mission to wrap the country in their monoculture aesthetic. It seemed a fitting target.




A note to those trying this at home, wind and banner drops don't mix. Always weight the bottom of your banner especially when working on a large scale. This thing was weighted but it was also so large that the wind whipped it like a kite.




It took a few minutes to get the thing to settle (thankfully we weighted the bottom.) Traffic stopped and the world stood still. Well, not quite but it was pretty hard not to notice.
