The First Hint of Spring:

The weather is turning tolerable and the streets are beginning to blossom. Soon clothes will get thin, nights will be warm, and the future will be full of hope.

But why wait? This weekend is one of beauty and there is so much to share. Thank you to the hundreds of you who joined us in Revival last Saturday your sweat and endless appetite for long nights of hedonism is always a pleasant surprise. Below are three more opportunities to save ourselves, one is a free opportunity for the danger makers; then a dinner party for you, me and a couple hundred of our closest friends; and finally a festival of fools featuring our favorite Hungry March Band.

To the Danger Makers,

So we have a space, 9,000sqft. for building art and media (and events) to a dangerous degree. After a rocky start with our landlord (perhaps we should have warned him about the 1,000 person parties) we have just extended our rental through the first of May and hopefully beyond.

We’ve been building out projects including sculpture of wood, plexiglass and lasers, digital design and a vegetable oil bus, but we have more space to spare. This is where you come in. If you have a project that is too big for your studio, to deadly for your apartment, or too brilliant to keep for yourself we may have workspace for you.

This invitation is for sculpture artists, massive muralists, performance troops, trapeze artists, fire breathers, burlesque dancers, progressive political bands, lion tamers and the like. If you make great work and need space, respond to this e-mail with information on your project and perhaps we can help you make it happen.

Holy Crap, it’s April Fools Day!

Indeed, and more than that, it’s spring. So in commemoration of the primordial chaos from which all things sprung, and in anticipation of better days to come, your dear friends in Marchingbandlandia are set to pump some life back into this languid town through mischief and diablerie. Dress to distress and come on out to Ft. Greene Park to catch a whiff of the undulating weirdness of the Hungry March Band, the Rude Mechanical Orchestra, the What Cheer? Brigade, and A Lesser Panda, four of the most titanic, charismatic, enigmatic, never sycophantic, and always up your antic brass bands the Northeast has to offer. It’ll make you want to have grandkids so you can tell them about it.

Thank you to everyone who made the event such an amazing experience, from the random acts of kindness, to the dancing on the rope bridge, to the Danger Blender, to the love of the dance floor through late the next day. To the hundreds of you who weren’t able to RSVP in time we apologize for the limitations on attendance. We had to severely limit the RSVP’s in order to satisfy the landlord and the local police. But now that we have proved that events like that can happen without anyone losing a finger, be prepared for much larger forays into the wilds of Brooklyn.

New Lost City : Call for Performers

We are looking for movement performers, stilt walkers and fire dancers to join the mass performance piece curated by Akim Funk Buddha and costumed by C-Spot Designs for this Saturday’s New Lost City. You will be creating the event atmosphere of heavenly Gomorra with simple acts and sweeping costumes.

This involves: one rehearsal on Thursday from 7pm to 8:30pm (or so), being measured and costumed by C-Spot designs, free entrance to the event for you and a friend, free drinks all night through one night of infamy in a sea of adoring revelers.

Danger! : Next they Come for You

Yes, we’ve been hosting allot of events lately, but we are still focused on our outsider activist roots. In these cold days of winter (or is it now spring?) we need these weekends of excess in order to purge the mania building inside. Our world is burning and our value system has been upended. While the kings of Halliburton ravage Iraq for profits, the local authorities have turned their attention to their most feared threat. Activists.

Recently the New York Times had a front page article detailing the obscene tactics of the police in infiltrating activist groups to cause violence, confusion and dissension. The full article is at:

More pointedly is the Green Scare. Instead of focusing on the threat from real terrorism, Federal authorities are rounding up Eco Activists across the country with severe penalties for non-violent crimes. See more at:

We don’t condone violence of any kind, but as these vicious cycles continue we wonder what can be done to save ourselves beyond innocent nights of escapism with the most creative minds we know.

This is an invitation to the second event at our new space in East Williamsburg. We’ve been diligently working to build even more climbable sculpture, intimate nooks, and immaculate dreamscapes into the new Complacent Nation / Blackkat.org crime lab.

Last week 900 of you trekked across Brooklyn, without the L train, to catch a glimpse of our latest fervent adventure. We were all pleasantly surprised with the crowd, the costumes, the spontaneity, the moments of indecency and the sweat-inducing dance orgy that continued far past sunrise… but you haven’t seen anything yet. Below is step two in what we hope will be a continuing amplification of art, sound and media in the Wilds of Brooklyn. Below is the party you love, because you love danger.

Three zones featuring what your preacher warned of. Starting at 8pm with live screen-printing by Antimart and Peripheral Media Project, bring a shirt or panties and they will show you how to print it with the “I (heart) DANGER” logo. Learn public vandalism with LED lights by the Graffiti Research Lab. The Madagascar Institute builds the Danger Blender live and then makes you drinks in our outdoor courtyard (weather permitting). And make your own cut/mash record with Howie Wreckhords’s Fuzzpop Workshop.

The room of Wood features music by: Subatomic Sound System starting it off with one part band one part beat blender with songs from their new album On All Frequencies; then Synapse of Beautiful/Decay bringing hip-hop to rare groove; Naked Slice of Jungle Terror spins drum & bass to breakcore; Jason (DANGER) BK of Blackkat brings electro to hard boiled techno; Joey Jupiter of Atomic Babies brings a hardware live set of acid house and Kimyon plays to the sunrise with his solid Detroit sound. The room of Brick features music by: Peter Gunn of More Fire with a NYC’s best Grime set; Habitrail vs. Nicholas Sauser battles live intelligent techno with live oboe accompaniment by Jen K; Madaro vs. Amok in a free teckno tag-team; $mall (c)hange brings the beat down with his trademark eclectic mix; and DJ Ese brings in the sunrise with beats and rhyme.

Plus fiery surprises in our outdoor area (weather permitting).

This is the start of a six week interactive art installation focused on climbable sculpture interactive video nooks, and discreet performance spaces featuring the Village of Shadows by will (nation) with hookahs from Balk Tick, gift costumes and live painting by C-Spot Designs, explore Fort Box built by Bunny, the big visual by Olga Naiman, video projections and the magic laser box by ImageNode, plus the foundation of the big sculpture by Tom Beale the woodsman.

The L train isn’t running this weekend but you love adventure and a bike/cab ride through Brooklyn is as good as it gets.

Wild Wild Brooklyn : On the Frontier of Fervent Adventure

For too long we’ve searched for a space to call our own.
We dream of something simple and grand, intimate and
expansive and in immaculate disrepair.

We’ve found that space.

Yesterday we signed a short-term lease on 9,000 sqft. of
personal outpost in the wilds of Brooklyn. For a brief
glimmer in time we have three intimate rooms, one massive
dance floor and a concrete courtyard to call our own. Here,
over the next six weeks we will host events and make art/media
to a dangerous degree.

This is where the wild things are.

Of course, we will begin with a bang. Saturday, March 4th
is the night of our opening event. This first party
will be a real-time exploration of the out-of-control.
Expect fire and moonshine, floor shaking bass and roof
shaking performance, hidden spaces and climbable art, and
music featuring dub to breaks to intelligent techno from
David Hollands, Lion Dub, Jason BK, Madaro, TZII and Ripit
from Paris, Naked Slice & David Last + Lance Blisters *live*.
